A new year is coming and there is so much to do! Besides spring cleaning, it is a good idea to switch up your curtains to welcome the New Year with a fresh look and feel. If you are looking into fixing up a new curtain rod, here are some easy to follow steps to guide you on installation.

Step 1: Determine curtain rod length

Measure the interior width of the window and add four inches to the overall measurement. This will help you to determine the curtain rod length.

Step 2: Determine Bracket Placement

When determining the bracket placement, there are a few things to consider. First is whether to install the rod on the casing or the wall outside the casing. Bear in mind that the curtains will only drawback as far as the brackets holding the rod. And also, depending on the length and design of your curtain, keep in mind to leave some vertical space. A tip on making the window appear larger than it is is to hang the brackets above the window.

Step 3: Place Bracket screw holes

Place the bracket on the right side over the center of the mark.  Then, mark the holes where the screw will go using a level and a pencil.

Step 4: Drill, secure and level the brackets

First, pre-drill holes for the screws using a 1/8” bit. Then, insert the screws into the pre-drilled holes, stopping a fair amount of distance from the surface of the window frame. Next, slide the bracket onto the screws and tighten the screws to secure the bracket to the window frame. After securing, place the rod into the right-side bracket. Then, use a level to determine the left-side bracket placement and do the necessary markings before drilling to put the left-side bracket in place.

Step 5: Hang Curtains and secure rod

Slide the rod through the curtain of your choice. Then, hang the rod onto the brackets by tightening the set-screw on the back side of each bracket.
